Are there decisions or actions you are putting off because of fear? Whether it is fear of failure, fear of the unknown, fear of change or something else, fear saps our creativity and joy.
Most Fears are Unfounded
One of the biggest realizations I had was that most of my fears are unfounded. The doomsday scenarios I would play out in my mind would literally never come to pass. It is such a tremendous waste of time and energy.
Now, when fear comes up, I try to take a more objective view of it rather than being swept up in it. Viewing fear as just another emotion has been enormously helpful and liberating.
Pain of Regret vs Fear of Action
When it comes to our dreams, we have two choices – either face the fear of taking action or face the pain of regret in the future. If we don’t overcome our fears, we are letting our dreams wither and die. When we don’t go after our dreams, we inevitably experience regret.
So what’s it going to be? The pain of regret or the fear of action?
The Familiar vs the Good
Often, we are hesitant to make a change even when we know the current situation is not working for us. The fear of change, keeps us rooted to the familiar instead of seeking out the good. Whether it is putting up with a soul-sucking job or rationalizing a bad relationship, remember that the change you seek is just being impeded by your fear.
Conclusion
Think about where fear is holding you back in life. Resolve to take one small step to address your fear and move forward.
